Geographical Features
Poitou-Charentes is made up of four zones. Each is different in size, physical features, climate, and population.
1. On the granite foothills of the Massif Central, are grasslands, where animals graze.
2. To the northwest of the region, a corner of the land of the Massif Armoricain, with its patchwork landscape of pastures, forests and fens, it is also a cattle rearing area.
3. Along the Atlantic Coast, a zone of alluvial plains and fens, where maritime activities and tourism predominate.
4. In the center, cereals, oilseed plants, and vines are grown on soils of varying degrees of fertility in which limestone predominates.
